A 68-year-old Montgomery, Illinois man was pronounced dead at the scene when a semi stopped due to construction was rear-ended by another semi. The other driver, a 54-year-old Pennsylvania woman was transported to hospital, but the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. The crash occurred in the southbound lanes of Tri-State Tollway south of I-55 at approximately 1:45 a.m. All southbound lanes were blocked as a result of this 2 semi rear-end collision.

Why Hire a Construction Truck Accident Lawyer

Every year I am hired to represent the victims of construction zone wrecks. I often tell families how important it is to hire an attorney as soon as possible when the wreck involves a semi and a construction zone. Often the careless driver will blame the construction zone. They may claim a lack of signs or improper lane or traffic control. An experienced truck wreck attorney will hire someone to get to the construction zone as soon as possible so that evidence can be preserved, and they will document the signage, traffic control and other design plans that have been implemented.

Fatalities in work zones are on the rise in Indiana. There were 25 fatal work zone crashes in Illinois in 2019. 15 fatalities involved large commercial trucks. These numbers are higher than the previous three-year average according to a report by the Nation Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse. It is well documented that lane changes or closures cause trouble for large trucks or commercial vehicles who require more distance than passenger vehicles to slow down for other drivers to merge into the open lane of travel. It seems that construction zone chaos is more and more prevalent. We all must do our part to be alert and attentive to what is happening in front of us and be ready to stop at a moment’s notice.
